When Exelixis moved their headquarters to Alameda in 2018, they weren’t content to just create cancer treatments in their brand-new, state-of-the-art labs; they wanted to support local organizations helping cancer patients and their families live longer and live better both during and after treatment. They found Cancer Support Community, and immediately Exelixis put the full weight of the company’s financial success and leadership into supporting CSC’s mission with event sponsorships and a major philanthropic grant.
Dr. Morrissey joined Exelixis in 2000 and held several positions of increasing responsibility before taking on the role of President and CEO in 2010. Since then, the Exelixis team has brought to market three internally discovered medicines aimed at improving the treatment of various forms of cancer. CSC is proud to honor Dr. Morrissey for his leadership, and for the remarkable philanthropic contributions Exelixis has made to enable CSC to provide free programs and services to help many Bay Area residents achieve their best possible medical outcomes and greatest quality of life while facing cancer.
Entrepreneur. Philanthropist. Mother. Cancer survivor. Jenny Schneider, founder of Apres Soleil Tans and Boutique in Walnut Creek, is an inspiration and leader, not only as a small businesswoman but also for her work in helping cancer patients. She started the first free skin cancer screening in the area, has held the highly successful "Meet Me in Miami" fundraiser benefiting CSC, and raises money through sales of beautiful bracelets to provide wellbeing kits to cancer patients during their hospital stays. Jenny is also a mother of three and does so much more for the community.
Our mission is to support people facing cancer in our community to become healthier, live longer, and live better.
Cancer Support Community provides comprehensive integrative care — including counseling, support groups, nutrition, exercise and patient education programs — for people with cancer and their families or caregivers. Our services enable cancer patients to partner with their treatment team to manage their treatment and recovery most effectively, increase their chances for survival, reduce their chances of recurrence, and provide for the highest possible quality of life.
We never turn anyone away, and all of our services are always provided free of charge in order to be readily accessible to people facing cancer in their time of need. We now serve 2,000 cancer patients and their families each year.
